Are you interested in colon cleansing at home and wondering what your options are? Read this article for a complete description.
Home Colon Cleanse – The Options
Is it possible to cleans the colon at home and get great results at a fraction of the cost of what you’d pay for a commercial colon detox kit? In simple terms, yes it is. There are essentially 4 major options available for do it yourself cleansers:
- Fasting – fasting either on juices or water prompts the body to detox and cleanse rapidly. It can be done from anywhere from 3 to 10 days. This is a radical approach and is best done if you’ve already had some cleansing experience. Also, it requires some strong discipline in order to succeed.
- Enemas – enemas involve water and or coffee or green tea in order to stimulate the colon to move. They are inexpensive and simple to do, but are the least powerful of all home colon cleansing methods. Enemas can be purchased at pretty much any drug store
- The Colon Cleansing Diet – During this diet you focus your food intake on cleansing foods while eliminating those foods that cause congestion. Meats, dairy and processed wheat products are out. And lots of fruit and vegetables are in. This diet, high in fiber, stimulates the colon to move and helps restore health. It is common to follow this diet for 30 days or so.
- Homemade Herbal Cleanse – During this program, you follow the cleanse diet and add special cleansing and detoxifying herbs to your diet. If you use a good and safe recipe this is the most complete approach to home colon cleansing.
Home Colon Cleanse – Safety
I’ve seen a lot of home remedy colon cleanse recipes and unfortunately not all of them are safe. You really need to be careful when it comes to using some of the herbs recommended. A couple to watch out for are senna and bentonite clay. Senna can cause severe loose bowel and bentonite has a mixed track record when it comes to removing toxins from your body.
In addition to these two herbs I’ve seen some cleanses that include dangerous mixtures of herbs in their recipes as well as recipes without precise instructions. Please be careful if you decide to use any of these remedies. Some simply aren’t that good. It’s always best to get tried and true recipes from expert cleansers.
Home Colon Cleanse – Final Thoughts
I regularly advise people on cleansing and my suggestions usually go as follows:
If you are an average healthy person looking to lose weight or improve your skin or generally feel better, I recommend a home remedy herbal cleanse. This is the most powerful and quickest approach and since you are in relatively good health already you can handle any of the minor detox symptoms that develop.
If you are ill and looking to heal, you may consider a colon cleansing diet first. Of course, you really need to check with your doctor before you go on any program. But I will say that I’ve seen many people have great results with this approach. Although it’s slower than herbal detox, it often provides longer lasting results.
